ELIZABETH ELEQUIN

Through my art, I strive to evoke not only visual pleasure but also emotional resonance — a connection between the viewer and the essence of the subject matter.
For decades, I have been creating large-scale paintings that celebrate the vibrant magnificence of flora and foliage, pushing the boundaries of conventional representation. I am drawn to the unexpected features of flowers and plants, relishing subtleties such as the intricate veining that runs through the inclines of a petal or the faint shadowing of a hue as it retreats behind a stamen. Color is central to my paintings as it sets the tone of the composition, and the images are always designed to complement it. Each bloom carries its own story, and my goal is to translate that narrative onto the canvas. This same philosophy extends to my animal portraits. I look for that one element that makes that particular creature singular in its specialness, such as the way its fur radiates color integration or a glance that conveys disposition. Not until I can connect with that special and unique quality can I begin to paint.
Regardless of the subject matter, I paint what inspires me the most. I hope when my paintings are seen – when they are experienced – they speak loudly with the same inspiration that moved me to create them.

Among Elizabeth’s inspirations are her beloved Boston Terriers—Oohlala, Yoo-Hoo, Yami Suke, Yeungling, and Figgy Stardust—whose playful spirit and daily companionship bring joy, movement, and character to her creative process. Their presence often adds a whimsical, heartfelt layer to her vibrant compositions. Her angel pups, Moonpie Sassafras, Lucylola and Jujube, were the original muses for her personal pet portraits, which soon caught the attention of fellow pet lovers and led to a growing interest in commissioned works.
